Ayurveda as Rejuvenating Herbal Treatment

In these modern times, when people depend on science and technology to look good and feel great, Ayurveda - The Indian Science of Life being natures own pill for rejuvenation. In Ayurveda text term used for rejuvenation is Rasayana; which is considered as one of the eight branches of Ayurveda.

“Rasayana” consist of two words “Rasa” and “Ayana”. “Rasa” means essence of something. Anything indigested into the body in the form of food or medicine first is synthesized into Rasa Dhatu; the basic plasma tissue. Ayana is the method by which “Rasa” is carried to all body tissues for biochemical metamorphosis. So “Rasayana” means that which destroys the old age and disease through the conservation, transformation and revitalization of energy. This rejuvenation treatment occupies a unique position in science of Ayurveda. It keeps the body young and agile even after one has passed his or her youth.

In Ayurveda texts Acharya Charak says that this therapy extends one’s lifespan by many years. It enhances energy and is even known to have cured the sick. It also increases a healthy person’s mental and physical capabilities. It is known to have improved skin complexion and texture, modulates the voice and is known to have improved sensing capacity of sense organs.

Ayurveda says that imbalances doshas create waste matter. This waste matter is called Ama in Ayurveda. Ama is a foul smelling, sticky, toxins substance that needs to be evacuated from the body as thoroughly as possible.

Panchkarma will stick out the excess doshas along with the sticky Ama out of system by means of body waste evacuation channels such as sweat glands, urinary tract, intestines etc.

Panchkarma is, thus a balancing operation. It involves daily massages & oil baths and is extremely pleasant experience. Ayurveda recommends panchkarma as a seasonal treatment for toning mind, body system. Panchkarma is a five fold treatment; it is highly personalized based on the needs of the individual depending on the body type, dosha imbalances etc, and so before rejuvenation treatment panchkarma should be taken.
