  STEPS IN PANCHKARMA

  UDVARTANA  
     
  Vigorous massage with herbalised paste. It increases speed of metabolism to produce more energy hence helpful in obesity, tumors, cysts, high cholesterol. Udvartana along with abhyanga, swedana & basti is an effective remedy for reducing and controlling obesity. It can reduce 2-5 kgs of weight in just 1 month.  
     
  SHIRODHARA  
     
  The medicated herbal lukewarm oil is dropped continuously in a fine jet on the forehead. This has a dramatic impact on the nervous system by calming down the mind and all sensual organs. A few sessions of Shirodhara substantially reduces the chances of all heart related diseases, migraine, high blood pressure, neuralgia, headache & psychological complaints.  
     
  PIZZICHILI  
     
  Medicated oil is synchronically poured on the body in continuos stream with a certain sequence of massaging and warming up of the body. Beneficial for improving immunity, antiaging, rejuvenation, paralysis, heals fractures and chronic fatigue syndrome.  
     
  PATRA PINDA SWEDA  
     
  Fomentation of the body with herbal leaves poultices after a massage. Beneficial for traumatic pains, inflammation, stiffness of joints, cervical and lumbar spondylitis, sciatica.  
     
  NAVARAKIZHI  
     
  Nourishment of the body by pounding & massaging the body with poultice prepared by rice, milk & herbs. Beneficial in paralysis, emaciation, strengthening the tissues, rejuvenation and anti aging.  
     
  SHIROBASTI  
     
  Keeping oil on the head with the help of special leather cap. Cures headache, insomnia, migraine & psychological conditions.  
     
  NETRA TARPAN  
     
  Keeping oil in eyeballs for a certain period of time. A course of netra tarpana improves visual errors, vascular problems of eye & removes impurities from the eye.  
     
  HRIDAY VASTI  
     
  This procedure is applied over heart using warm medicated oils or herbal decoctions. It strengthens the heart, relieves deep seated anger & sadness.  
     
  CHAKRAVARTHI VASTI  
     
  This basti is applied to the umbilical region. It acts on solar plexus. It helps in indigestion, constipation and balancing the digestive system.  
     
  KATI VASTI  
     
  A special technique aimed at providing relief to the lower back using warm medicated oil or herbal decoction. Beneficial in curing chronic and acute backache, prolapsed disc, lumbar spondylitis, osteoporosis & sciatica.  
     
  GREEVA VASTI  
     
  This basti is applied on the back of the neck using warm medicated oil or decoction. Beneficial for cervical spondylitis, chronic neck pain and compression fractures.  
     
  JAANU BASTI  
     
  Basti is applied on the knee with warm medicated oil or herbal decoction. It promotes the strength of the knee joint by improving the circulation. Beneficial for pain & osteoarthritis of knee joint.  
     
  SHIROPITCHU  
     
  Special medicated oil according to the body type is applied to the head for 30-45 minutes in a special manner. Beneficial in hair fall, greying of hairs (by nourishing hair follicle), headache & insomnia.  
     
  DURATION OF A PANCHKARMA TREATMENT  
     
  Performed under the active personal care of an Ayurvedic physician, these luxurious treatments extend over a period of days.
Minimum 15 days but for the best result 23 days are essential.
 
     
  BEHAVIORAL PROGRAM DURING PANCHKARMA  
     
 
Enjoy a minimum of mental and physical activity during the treatment period.
Ayurveda bedtime is between 9 and 10 p.m. wakes up at 6 am, go for walk and complete your TM program before treatment begins.
Take meals in a settled atmosphere.
Avoid exciting entertainment, TV, etc. especially before retiring at night.
Take a light regular diet during Panchkarma.
Do not take dry foods. Avoid spicy foods.
Only hot water to be used for drinking, gargling, bathing, cleaning etc.
Observe celibacy, in thought and action, for the duration of the treatment.
Avoid sleeping during the day. (Except if you fall asleep during a rest period after treatment).
Go to bed early and don’t keep awake at night.
Do not suppress natural urges like urination, etc.
Avoid physical exercises, loud and excessive speech, etc.
Avoid cycling, riding jerky vehicles, horse riding, etc.
Avoid exposure to cold, sun, wind, or rain. Avoid too much air-conditioning especially at night & do not heat your room too much in winter.
Avoid becoming angry, anxious, worry, irritable.
Avoid excessive walking or sitting. Do not sit or lie down for more than one hour at a stretch.
Do not walk barefoot or talk, study, or read too much.
When climbing or descending steps, walk slowly one step at a time.
Eat only wholesome fresh foods. Eat when you are hungry.
You should be empty stomach before all Panchkarma procedures except Matra Basti.
Follow any other guidelines given to you by the physician.
